Would-be Beatles plan benefit show

Four young musicians will perform as the Un"Beatle"bles at a July 10th benefit concert for the Mary C. O'Keefe Cultural Center. The quartet will impersonate two stages of the Beatles' careers. The group includes Alex Scharr (as Paul McCartney), Daniel Lorrain (George Harrison) and Bradley Dale (Ringo Starr), all Ocean Springs High School students. Alex's older brother, Travis Scharr (John Lennon), who attends Millsaps College in Jackson, rounds out the group.

The musicians, who also perform in their own band known as Figment, got the idea for the concert when they saw a Beatles cover band at Disney World.

Big fans of the Beatles, the musicians dreamed of doing a show of their music for a long time. They also wanted to perform at the O'Keefe Center, formerly the old Ocean Springs High School. They see it as a way to combine their dreams and raise money to complete the renovation of the old school building.

The first half of the Un"Beatle"bles concert will feature the early Beatles songs, with the quartet dressed in suits similar to the ones the group wore in their debut performance in America on The Ed Sullivan Show. The second part of the show will cover the psychedelic years, with costuming to match. The two-hour performance will feature up to 30 of the Beatles' songs.

Advance tickets for the 7 p.m. show can be purchased at the Mary C. O'Keefe Center or the Ocean Springs Chamber of Commerce for a $5 donation. For more information call 228-818-2878.
