Long Beach Mardi Gras parade set for Jan. 30

Link - Carnival in Long Beach officially began in 1961 when mothers of children attending St. Thomas School sought a fund-raiser to continue the quality of education for their children. By 1964, interest in Carnival was so widespread that the name was officially changed from the St. Thomas Mother's Club to the Carnival Association of Long Beach. Royalty carries the name of King Scott and Queen Rosalie because Long Beach was first known as Scott's Station and Rosalie. In 1971, the first parade rolled through the streets of Long Beach and in 1979, CALB had generated so much interest and membership Coastwide, it became incorporated by obtaining chartered status as a legitimate tax-exempt charitable organization.
