Mother's the word
Link - The 70 English words that came top in a survey of favourites conducted by the British Council. (OK, only in England would umbrella make the top 70 list. Any suggestions on what words would have been deleted - or added - on an American list?)
Here are mine...
I don't think "sweetheart" would make an American list. It sounds a bit old-fashioned now. (But please feel free to call me sweetheart any time - I personally like the word!)
Blue is a strange word to make the list. I like the color, but as a word standing on its own, there's not much poetry there. Same for cute and gum.
And, in America, Why would definitely have been on the list, I believe.
