Documentary chronicles Ocean Springs man's unusual life
Greg Smith of Ocean Springs was diagnosed with muscular dystrophy, a progressive weakening of the muscles, when he was three years old. He wasn't supposed to live past the age of 10.
Now 40, Smith's story will be told on an upcoming episode of the PBS program "Independent Lens," a show hosted by the actress Susan Sarandon set to air Feb. 15 at 9 p.m. Titled "On a Roll," the project, produced by independent filmmaker Joanne Caputo, took more than six years to complete.
A nationally syndicated radio talk show host, Smith's weekly program, "The Strength Coach," airs locally on the Coast on Sundays at 10 p.m. on WTNI 1640.
Smith's book, On a Roll: Reflections from America's Wheelchair Dude with Attitude, will be self-published in March.
