Girl Scout fund-raiser delivers cookies to troops overseas

Hattiesburg area Girl Scout troops are sending a taste of home to troops serving overseas. The Cookies for Troops campaign lets groups or individuals send a case of Girl Scout cookies to soldiers for $50 - $36 for the cookies plus $14 shipping.

"Last year our council sent 50 cases to troops just as a good will gesture," said Susan Yarrow, program director of the Gulf Pines Girl Scout Council. "A guy who got cookies said he had a part of home delivered to him." The program will continue through mid-March or as long as the council has cookies to send, Yarrow said.

Senders can designate the cookies for an individual or it can just go to the troops. More than 3,000 Mississippi troops are currently serving in Kuwait or Iraq. The council has shipping addresses onhand for those troops.

Members of Kappa Delta soroirity at the University of Southern Mississippi helped ship the cookies last year and have volunteered again to help this year.
