Mississippi Symphony Orchestra presents A Night at the Oscars
A great Valentine's Day idea too if you are in the Jackson area...
The Mississippi Symphony Orchestra is presenting the second concert in its 2004-2005 Pops Series, A Night at the Oscars, at 7:30 pm on February 12 at Thalia Mara Hall under the direction of Maestro Crafton Beck. The concert will feature Oscar-winning musical selections from films as diverse as Gone with the Wind and E.T.: The Extra Terrestrial.
Concertgoers will be given the red carpet treatment upon arrival at Thalia Mara Hall. A photographer, lights and a red-carpet-lined entryway will re-create the glamorous and glitzy
atmosphere of the Academy Awards. Complimentary champagne will be served at intermission.
The audience will be treated to a musical history of cinema, with themes from earlier films such as Exodus and Ben Hur to more recent selections from Forrest Gump, Aladdin and
others. There are multiple pieces on the program by John Williams, one of the most prolific and award-winning movie composers of all time, including themes from Star Wars, Jaws, Schindler’s List and Superman.
Tickets for “A Night at the Oscars” are $30/15 for adults, $25/10 for seniors 65 and older, and $5 for students ages 4-18. College students with a valid student ID may also purchase $5 tickets during "Student Rush," 30 minutes before the concert is scheduled to begin. Please call (601) 960-1565 or visit the MSO office at 201 East Pascagoula Street in downtown Jackson to purchase tickets.
